Portrait lighting - natural light, on-camera flash plus shoot-through umbrella

Today I set up my studio lighting kit and experimented with a combination of natural light, on-camera flash and an umbrella attached to a permanent light (non flash) which diffuses the light.

Natural Light
Philip was asked to stand near the back door with some overcast lighting coming through. There were some shadows coming onto his face but it was enough light for a standard portrait.

The on-camera flash built into the Pentax K10D was used in this photo, along with natural lighting from the right. The flash helped fill out some of the shadows and gave slightly better tones
